  1. Langston was elected in 1888 as the first and only black congressmen from Virginia.

    In 1891, Ralph E. Langston, son of John M. Langston was arrested and charged with abduction by a Miss Van Geoff, of Brooklyn, who said she did not suspect he was a negro.
